Why Choose a Salon-Fitted Wig?

New to wigs? If you're unclear about how to narrow down styles and pick ones that will work best for you, start here. Like selecting a diamond, choosing a wig requires some understanding and appreciation for details — but the basics take ten minutes to learn.

1. Start with the cap, not the colour

The cap is the foundation everything else hangs on. A well-made cap disappears against your skin, stays put without glue, and lets your scalp breathe. The three constructions you'll meet most:

  • Lace front — a sheer lace panel at the hairline with individually hand-tied strands. The most natural-looking hairline; you can pull hair back off your face.
  • Full lace / hand-tied — the whole cap is hand-knotted. Maximum parting freedom and movement, at a higher price.
  • Wefted (machine-made) — open wefts with stretch. Breathable, affordable, and perfect for everyday synthetics.

2. Density matters more than length

First-time buyers almost always overestimate density. Natural hair sits around 100–130% density; anything above 150% reads glamorous rather than everyday. If you want colleagues to say "great haircut" instead of "great wig", stay in the natural range.

3. Human hair vs. heat-friendly synthetic

Human hair lasts 1–3 years, takes colour and heat, and moves exactly like bio hair — but it needs styling after every wash, just like your own. Heat-friendly synthetics hold their style out of the box, cost a fraction, and last 4–8 months of regular wear. There is no wrong answer, only the wrong expectation.

4. Measure once, wear for years

Wrap a soft tape around your hairline, behind your ears and around the nape. Most adults land in the 21.5–22.5" "average" range. Between sizes? Size down — adjustable straps take up slack, but a stretched cap never shrinks back.

5. Why salon finishing changes everything

Every Tressalune piece is cut, thinned at the ends and pre-plucked at the hairline before it ships, with baby hairs laid by hand. That thirty minutes at our bench is the difference between "nice wig" and "wait, that's a wig?"
